Acer Aspire 4920, Problems?

My Superior had just bought a new notebook, and he choose it because of my recommendation on last Wednesday, without any Operating System, because it so very hard to find a new notebook with a Windows XP preinstalled these days. So then, he bought an Acer Aspire 4920-5A0516Mi.
As the one who recommend it to him, I should be responsible to make everything alright for him to use the notebook.. at least to install Windows XP, drivers and everything.

From my experience, new non-Operating System notebooks need an application to start the fresh windows installation. And i have already had the “f6″ application, so there will be no problems on it. So, no problems at all when I installing the fresh Windows XP on it. You may download it from here (installation file) or here (after installation files), remember, You need a healthy Floppy disk drive, and of course the disk.

The next steps are installing the drivers.. It wasn’t a hard thing to do, because in the selling-package the drivers - for both Vista and XP - are included. So easy, isn’t it?

As what I always did, I start the chipset installation, and then the AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface), VGA, and finally the Sound system…. ups… here comes the problem… No Sound comes out from the speaker!!
well… I was guessing that it will solved when i finished all the drivers installation, and i then continued to the other things until i found that when i need to restart the notebook, it couldn’t goes off… wow… two major problems for these nice-look notebook.

Start again with another fresh Windows XP.
Still having the same problems. ups.. so it wasn’t the software problems…. hmmm… was it a hardware problems? I couldn’t make a conclusion yet…
Try and search trough the famous uncle google all yesterday afternoon and found ZERO result. Try to find some help, and download some drivers from Microsoft or directly from Acer it self, return with another big Zero…

Here are the specification of the notebook:

I found something on yahoo answer that the Realtek High Definition Audio is not supported by a x32 operating system… do you mean I got to install a 64-bit of Windows XP or even a brand new looking good Windows Vista?
No.. not yet and thank you very much… there must be a way to solve this problem. but how?
And another thing that I found is that the driver for the webcam
doesn’t work at all and the “suyin” driver will only make our notebook
will not goes off when we shut it down.

After doing another research with the help of my uncle google, I found a little light from the largest Indonesian community… you know it.. and it was a weird way to install a computer (PC or notebook), but then i ask my self why did I never thought that way of troubleshooting?

The first thing to do after installing a fresh Windows XP SP2 on Acer Aspire 4920 (especially acer notebooks with the same spec) is installing the sound driver form here, without ejecting the Windows XP CD from the optical drive, and just sit back and relax, don’t do anything until it really finished and ask to restart the system. Then it’s our choice whether we want to restart on not.
On that community, I found that the next thing he will do is installing the webcam driver -”suyin”. But after several time trying, it will failed. Because that driver is really a trash. DON’T EVER install that “suyin” driver, just skip it. So, BEFORE YOU INSTALLING ANYTHING ELSE, we should continue to the Chipset installation, use the XP driver instead of the Vista, because it could make the system crashed (I face this last night). After that, it’s all up to you.
Last night (which is success) the steps are : Launch Manager (drivers DVD - XP), AHCI (drivers DVD - XP), VGA-Intel (drivers DVD - XP), Touchpad (drivers DVD - XP), LAN (download here, don’t use the one from the installation DVD), Card Reader (drivers DVD - XP), Acer Launch Application Fix (download here), Modem (Automatic install from Windows XP), Wireless (XP-iProDifx driver), and the last one is Bluetooth (drivers DVD - XP).
And…. finished!! yes!!!
Don’t forget to backup the final installation (i.e. Norton Ghost), because it wont be easy to do everything again. And it would be a great idea to create a RESTORE POINT after each hardware installation… if anything we don’t like happens.. just go back to the last good state of our Windows.

well… that’s it.. after 2 days I finally solved that problems.
I hope this post could do some help for everyone who face the same problem as I did.

Earth Day 2008

Yesterday.. April 22, 2008 is the famous Earth Day.
The question is, what we have did for this lovely Earth, to keep it clean, keep it in a reasonable climate, and good for our life?
Let us see… the use of any electronics things in our daily life has create a disaster for the earth. Our PC’s, TV’s and Cellphones, are the biggest e-waste creator these days and the toxics level of these e-waste are very high. They could create a very dangerous matters for living bodies.
What can we do with that to make everything better?
Recycle.
That easy to found the answer?

NOPE!!

If only that easy to recycling everything… and… if only that easy to ask everyone (especially those big electronics producers) to do recycling on all their waste products. Remember.. we still couldn’t do the recycle process for all parts of those things, yet.. I really hope someone will found the way to do it all soon.

Ok.. that will be a very big step for us to do. We will need lots of people to push everyone to do that. but now, as a single person, as a small part only on this earth, what have we done and what will we do?

At least we got to remember to keep clean. Don’t throw any trash from your hand to the earth. It won’t be hard only to keep it in your bag until you find a trashcan, rubbish bin, or what ever you name it.
It might only be a tiny thing to do, but if we ALL do this… please try to imagine how will our rivers, beaches, roads, pedestrians.. after that, if we all have already do that tiny part, we move to the bigger part… but don’t think about it yet…
Don’t talk if you didn’t act.
Don’t ask if you couldn’t do.

Let us love our earth…..

semangat yang tumbuh

Mulai lagi tumbuh semangat dalam menulis di blog ini setelah sekian lama “agak pudar”. I think the things made me lost my mood to write a post is that I always thought that I MUST wrote my post in English, but not now… I think I need a little time to write in bahasa again for a while… Kenapa? Coz sometimes it was not easy to think n wrote what inside my head n mind all in English..
Well… I’m so sorry if some of you guys feeling disappointed coz i start to write my post in bahasa again, I wish u didn’t mind about it. But I won’t stop writing in English, I will still use English on some of my post. Just like this one, I start to write in bahasa, but then I use English again now.

Belakangan emang hilang sedikit semangat untuk menulis, namun aku memang tetap mencoba tetap menulis, tapi kalo udah ketemu jalan buntu… ga gampang juga ternyata memulainya lagi. So, please let me writing in bahasa for some of my posts, ok?

Batas akhir diundur lagi

Jadi, batas akhir penurunan (lebih lembut : penyesuaian) tarif operator Telekomunikasi Selular diundur lagi.

Aku sudah sangat ingin mengertahui, apakah operator yang aku gunakan selama ini sudah tepat dan sesuai dengan (yang katanya) peraturan dari Depkominfo, khususnya mengenai tarif yang digunakan setiap operator selular. Beberapa waktu lalu, bahkan sampai dengan kemarin rasanya aku masih mendengar bahwa batas akhir yang ditentukan untuk penyesuaian tarif tersebut adalah pada tanggal 14 April 2008. Dan…. Jreeeeng…

Siang ini aku baru saja melihat running text di sebuah tayangan televisi swasta nasional, dan tertulis disana bahwa batas akhir penurunan tarif tersebut adalah tanggal 25 April tahun ini. Nah, jadi bagaimana aku bisa tahu sampai sekarang operator mana sebetulnya yang membarikan tarif paling murah?

Dari tempointeraktif (berita bisa dilihat disini), jubir Depkominfo mengatakan hal ini lebih save bila didasarkan pada Peraturan Menteri No. 9 Tahun 2008, mmmm… Peraturan menteri yang mana yah? Susah deh jadi orang awam yang ga pernah tahu kalo ternyata sudah ada sebuah peraturan baru di negara ini. Kenapa ya sosialisasi peraturan tidak dibuat sebijak mungkin agar masyarakat dapat dengan mudah dan cepat mengetahui setiap ada keputusan baru yang dibuat oleh pemerintah?

Wah, jadi bingung deh, kenapa selalu saja ada “pe(atau ke)munduran” yang terjadi di badan-badan yang dibuat untuk mengatur regulasi di negara ini?

Pemblokiran Situs

Belakangan ini banyak sekali obrolan mengenai pemblokiran situs-situs tertentu di forum-forum online. Hal ini dilakukan karena beredarnya film “Fetna” yang dilakukan oleh seorang di Negeri Belanda sana. Jujur aja, meski berhubungan dengan internet setiap hari, aku sama sekali belum tau seperti apa film tersebut dan bagaimana ceritanya. Pada dasarnya mungkin aku memang tidak pernah terlalu peduli dengan hal seperti itu.
Masalah pemblokiran situs-situs tertentu yang disesuaikan dengan Undang-Undang terbaru mengenai Informasi dan Transaksi Elektronik sebenarnya jadi agak (atau malah sangat) rancu. Anda bisa coba unduh UU ITE tersebut di sini untuk mengetahui lengkapnya dari undang-undang tersebut.
Beberapa situs yang pernah (atau masih) diblok oleh Pemerintah melalui Internet Service Provider (ISP) adalah Youtube, MySpace, Matacafe, Rapidshare, Multiply, Leveleak, Themoviefitna, dan masih banyak lagi. Bahkan beberapa situs Blog juga sempat diblok dengan alasan yang sebenarnya tidak masuk akal. Blog diblok? apa gunanya?
Belakangan juga sempat tersebar berita (atau isu) tentang situs pertemanan “Friendster” akan masuk dalam daftar blok dan juga situs pencari “Google” dalam pertimbangan untuk diblok karena mempermudah untuk mencari content yang melanggar UU ITE tersebut.
Beberapa situs sudah merubah content dari jejaring di situs mereka untuk menghindari blok tersebut. Salah satunya yang aku tau sih jelas di sebuah forum (yang katanya) terbesar di Indonesia, “Kaskus”, yang sudah menghilangkan forum dewasa, Buka-bukaan 17 tahun ke atas (BB17), dari list mereka.

Tapi ada beberapa hal yang menyedihkan di kantor-kantor yang menggunakan sambungan internet. Contohnya di tempatku bekerja, entah dari ISP atau dari regulator di perusahaan ini, masih ada beberapa situs yang diblok dengan alasan yang rasanya sudah lagi tidak kuat. Kaskus sudah tidak lagi mengandung BB17 tapi masih juga diblok, apakah regulator tidak pernah meng-update pengetahuannya mengenai situs apa yang harus diblok, masih tetap harus diblok, atau sudah bisa dikeluarkan dari daftar blok?

Ada lagi, bagaimana cara blok itu dilakukan?
Beberapa waktu yang lalu pemerintah mencoba dengan memblok menggunakan “kata kunci”, seperti “sex”, “fitna”, “fetna”, dan sebagainya. Dan aku rasa ini bukan cara yang baik untuk melakukan pemblokiran, karena kata-kata yang disaring tersebut belum tentu memang mengandung content yang dilarang.
Sebuah contoh, kata “sex”, “seks”, baik itu mengandung “free”, “bebas”, atau tidak atau juga kata-kata yang mendekati hal itu untuk membahasnya, belum tentu merupakan situs yang berisi hal yang asusila atau anonoh. “Sex Education” juga mengandung kata tersebut, tapi bukan hal yang harus diblok kan? Dan dari mana generasi muda bisa mendapatkan pendidikan yang tepa mengenai Sex kalau bukan dari Internet dengan menggunakan kata kunci tersebut, sedangkan di negara (dengan budaya Timur yang SOK kental) ini, Sex Education masih terasa tabu untuk dihadirkan dalam kurikulum di sekolah-sekolah. Aku sempat mendengar beberapa tahun lalu bahwa content ini akan dimasukkan dalam kurikulum, tapi dengan alasan bahwa kurikulium belum siap dan sebagainya, berita itu hilang begitu saja dan sampai sekarang rasanya tidak pernah terealisasi kecuali (mungkin) di sekolah-sekolah swasta.
So, mau cari tau dimana kalau dilakukan pemblokiran melalui “keyword”?

Aku lebih setuju kalaupun mau melakukan pemblokiran, lakukan dengan menggunakan alamat situs, content situs, dan sebagainya, yang memang isinya SUDAH PASTI tidak sesuai dengan aturan yang berlaku di sini, dengan catatan aturan tersebut juga harus sempurna dan tidak merugikan sebelah pihak, kalau mau sih rugi ya rugi aja semua.
Tapi, orang rajin mana yang mau mengecek isi setiap situs untuk melakukannya? Orang PEMERINTAHan mana yang mau melakukan itu? jawabannya.. entahlah…

Ahh, semoga aja pemblokirannya bisa dilakukan dengan cara bijaksana, sebagaimana Pemerintah atau Dewan Rakyat berlaku sebagai wakil dari rakyat, karena pemblokiran ini juga menggantungkan nasib banyak orang. Salah salah, ada yang ga bisa makan hanya karena situs tempay dia mencari sesuap berlian termasuk dalam daftar blok padahal isinya tidak ada yang salah, tapi hanya karena situsnya terkena cara “keyword” atau “link” saja.

Aku.. menunggu saja akhirnya bagaimana dengan harapan situs dan blog-ku ini ga ikut kena blok oleh DEPKOMINFO atau ISP (atau server regulator) yang anda gunakan untuk mengakses internet, baik di rumah, di kantor, tempat-tempat hotspot dan lainnya.
