Camera, the maintenance

Since the late of nineties, digital camera become a common interest on photography. The superiority of these digital camera are because they are very handy, relatively cheap, and very easy to use.
But, as its predecessor -the analog camaras- we need to know how to maintain our digital photo camera to make sure it will always in a prefect condition. These points might give you (and me too, of course) some clues on how to be sure that our camera will be ready everytime we need it.

  1. Remember, always store your camera in a cool, dry, and air proof box (drybox, never have one yet… hikz..). This is to protect our camera, lenses, and other photo equipments from fungal infections which can if left unchecked damage the surface of our equipments. The other thing is to protect the components inside our camera from humidity, if the air are clammy, it might damage those electrical components. We could choose, depend on how many equipment do we have or plan to have, from many size of drybox available in the market, and if we don’t have enough fund (yet) to buy one of it, we may store our camera in a good-air-proof box with some silica gel in it.
  2. Don’t ever put camphors near your camera, it may stained the body and moreover it may damage our camera components, too. Stay away from water, especially the sea water. For cameras with dust and spalsh proof specification -make sure the lens are too- we may use it under the rain, but wipe it clean and dry as soon as possible after “torturing” our camera like that. (and.. back to number one, put it ASAP in our dybox).
  3. Don’t let your camera stay too long under the sunshine, the temperature might damaging the components. As well as the temperature, the extreme changes of temperature -from high to low temperature or the other way- might harm our camera. It is highly recomended to bring your camera in a special bag (camera bag) to avoid impact from collision with gard things.
  4. Clean up your camera and lenses from time to time to wipe out dusts and sweats sticked on the body and lenses. Use special tissue and blower to do it better. Another best time to clean our camera is right away after we use it, especially after doing outdoor photography.
  5. For DSLR camera, it is highly recomended to set a filter on the lense to avoid scratch -at least UV filter to avoid the UV harmed our lens and camera- and keep in mind to set the lens rear cap when you didn’t use it.
  6. Last one in this post, or at least from me here, if you need to fix or repair, or maibe only to have a service to clean your camera, find and do on reliable places. It is not only authorized service center, there are some place reliable outside the sevice center.
