Camera, the maintenance

Since the late of nineties, digital camera become a common interest on photography. The superiority of these digital camera are because they are very handy, relatively cheap, and very easy to use.
But, as its predecessor -the analog camaras- we need to know how to maintain our digital photo camera to make sure it will always in a prefect condition. These points might give you (and me too, of course) some clues on how to be sure that our camera will be ready everytime we need it.

Ideal shape of camera

The first permanent photograph was made in 1814 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce using a sliding wooden box camera made by Charles and Vincent Chevalier in Paris. It was so big and heavy. The shape was a box made from woods and painted in black color, and it’s foots are as heavy as the camera it self. Using this camera on the early time was so complicated.

You may understand why did the photo journalistic are very late compared to writing era. The printing press has deployed it’s writing since more than 300 years ago -In 2005, the World Association of Newspapers accepted evidence that Johann Carolus (1575 - 1634) pamphlet was printed beginning in 1605-, while photographs start to printed on newspaper on New York Daily Graphic in US dated on March 4th, 1880. The first photo on it was Shantytown oil field taken by Henry J. Newton. The camera was became the most obstacle in photo journalistic be cause of it’s weight. Photo journalists would not be productive if the camera he use needs more people to carry the camera and it’s tools.

When is the right time to buy a new camera?

That question might could change to “how long do a camera last?” or “how many years until I should decided to buy a new camera?”.
Well, the world of photography -and present day it has already change to a digilat era- has already change. There was a time when photography is a profession or a hobby, but now it become like a lifestyle. The passion to have a digital camera are almost the same as how it feel to have a cellphone.

We might still could remember when we may use a camera for a very long time -if not forever-, now in the digital era, we may say that camera has a limited lifetime. The inside parts of the camera, such as chips in it, can not last forever. Or, the worst thing is that if the camera has already not-up-to-date anymore, regarding to the technologies in the new cameras. Of course, technologies always move a step forward every time we realize.

Solar eclipse, January 26, 2009 (part II)

Yesterday, January 26, 2009… I finally could see the annular solar eclipse. It was so very beautiful. Thanks to my lovely Cle, without her I probably could not see it and capture the moment.
Here, I posted (only) 3 pictures I captures yesterday.

I found that this kind of phenomena was not easy to capture it with my (regular) digital camera, but at least I’ve tried.
All the images are taken only by my Olympus E-500, Kit-lens ZD 14-45 (f/3.5-5.6), and Zoom lens ZD 40-150 (f/3.5-4.5). I didn’t use any special equipment for capturing eclipse. The additional equipment was only a Velbon tripod and double UV filters (Matin and Kokaii) only.
I was so excited to try and did not care if my camera will break after yesterday. First, I was only try using my Standard zoom Zuiko Digital Lens (14-45mm, f/3.5-5.6) in P-mode. but hei.. I couldn’t capture anything even when I use f/22. It was all so bright! well… I’m still an amateur on photography, rite?
Then I change my camera to M-mode (manual) and try to change everything from f number and the speed. and the moment could only captured in 1/4000 s and f/22. wow!!! well… remember, I did not use any other filter. I should have try to use a CPL filter, an ND, or use a film coating. Well.. next time maybe, if I had the chance to be in that next time.
Then after several shoots and realize that the image of the solar was too small, I decided to change my lens to Zuiko Digital zoom lens (40-150mm, f/3.5-4.5) directly in M-mode, 1/4000 and f/22.
The result? walla!!!! that’s nice!!! and I couldn’t stop capturing the moment… mmm… I realize that I have lost the moment when the eclipse start until it was becoming a ring shape.
Well… that was it.

the moment I was originally planned with my brother, Ical.
bRO, this one is for you, as I promised you that I will come to see the solar eclipse. I couldn’t go to Lampung, I couldn’t go with you, but this is the best I could do, bRO.. as my last promise to you.

note: thanks to sawung, updating all the information about this solar eclipse. and thanks, too, to ria who joining Cle and me.

Let’s raise our coffee cup!

Ahh…. a very good day.. But sometime we feel so sleepy even in a good or even great day.. and I think we all know the best thing to do.
We (at least me), don’t care too much ’bout time, weather or place. Coffee is always great to consume at any circumstances. Well, just like tea… but tea is not the thing I want to talk about now.

Everyone have their own favorite coffee (of course). From the “real” coffee to the “fake” one. hei… I didn’t mean to say that there are “fake coffee” from “fake coffee bean”. For me, coffee (the real one) is black… no sugar are better, or at least a small amount of sugar. But the other “fake” one are still coffee. So, the “real” one i say is only for the coffee i like… black, no sugar.

Here, some choices of coffee…

Espresso

This is a classic coffee with a very hard and bitter taste, but for a true coffee drinker (if not a coffee-holic) espresso is the best for them. It made by spraying hot and high pressured steam on the coffee powder. Espresso will matches with various kind of cheesecake. Espresso is the basic ingredient to make other coffee, such as cappuccinos and Latte. And finally it served in a small cup of coffee (demitasse). Get the whole story »

need an Oly e-500’s focusing screen

olympus_e500.jpg
I really need to replace the focusing screen of my Olympus DSLR, the old E-500. Dusts are stuck on every millimeter on it’s surface and I don’t know how to clean it.
I have tried googling so many times to find out how to clean it up, but there is no easy way to do that, and the others said to bring the camera to the service center. But well…. I hate to know that my camera is away from me.
So, does anyone knows how is the best way to clean it? focusing screen, the (too)dust-sensitive screen in my camera?
I couldn’t afford a new body, cause there are some friends told me to find and buy a new bofy, but at least I could just try to find some rupiahs to buy a replacement for my focusing screen. I don’t need the original one, well it might be kind of hard too find it. Cause my camera is an old one.
e500_sm.gif
This one comes from Katz eye, but I don’t know where I can find it here in Jakarta. Search all around the net and some community, still couldn’t find the right one for my E-500.
It’s a split screen.. just like an old(er) SLR camera.
Well, the price is not (too) inexpensive, but still if someone could lead me to the place where I could buy it, it would be a very great help for me.. I need to manual focus when I start to shot!

or

focusscreen.JPGThis one. This focusing screen is very cheap, comes from–well you might have guessed it–China.
But I still don’t know where to find it. I found it somewhere in the net, some Australian guy bought it and he said that it’s not a bad idea to use it.
Well.. the best thing is if someone could show me how to clean it up, of course in the in-expensive way. But I will be very glad if there is some place out there in Jakarta where I could find this thing.

ahh…. feels like I need a cigar everytime I think about this…

by the way… thanks in advance for anyone whom show me how to clean it or…. show me where to buy it.
I’ll wait… or… doing else things of course….

susah hunting

sekarang badan kerasa pegel-pegel deh semua… asa ga jelas pisan yah?
i need to have much much much much rest now.. but still i couldn’t.. need to do a lot of things…

semoga aja makin pinter… heheehe.. amiin…
